I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon with a specialist interest in urological cancer. I was appointed as a consultant at St Mary’s NHS Trust in 1994, initially performing major open surgery.
With the evolution of laparoscopic urologic cancer surgery I retrained in these techniques, including a brief sabbatical to Cleveland Clinic, Ohio. In 2004 I started the first robotic prostatectomy programme in the UK in conjunction with colleagues in West London, and recently expanded this to include robotic nephron-sparing surgery for early renal cancer. I hold an honorary Clinical Senior Lectureship at Imperial College London and am now Director of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, the UK’s first Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC).
I have a strong interest in medical publishing and, amongst other editorial roles, I am the Editor in Chief of the British Journal of Medical and Surgical Urology.
